Hi all,

We went along to a rather good night of music recently on September 21st. It was run by Linen Industry and it was at Big Blue Coffee Shop on Saddlergate in Derby.

Myself (Shotokan Disco) and Mr Benji went along to check out this new night on its launch night and see what it was all about. There were 2 solo artists up, a band and a DJ, who were all rather good.

First up was Jo Lewis, vocals and acoustic guitar. Great voice, some great melodies.

Next up was Beck Stacey. At first I thought very Tori Amos, who I love, but after a song or two it was apparent she was no clone, as she entertained her way thorugh her set. Great piano syncopation, chord sequences and confident vocals. Also liked the little improv with the drum set next to her.

The final live act were "The Riff Raff Crew". This band comprised of a drummer, double bassist, guitarist, laptop / keyboardist and an MC. Some great textures and rhythm section interplay as well as crowd pleasing poetic rants from the MC.

Finally DJ Soesmix Edan continued with beats at the end.

There was also a free 6 track CD given for the £2 entry fee.
A track by each of the acts featured on it as well as some extras, including an interesting track by an artist called "Bobbles Clifton"

You can expect to catch Shotokan Disco live at Linen Industry very soon
